Steve Peacocke is one of the latest editions to Home and Away. Steve plays the character of hunky surfer bad-boy Daryll "Brax" Braxton.
Steve Peacocke, made his first on-screen appearance on 16 February 2011. Darryl is the oldest of three brothers known as the The River Boys, a "bad-boy surf gang with dodgy reputations." The Daily Telegraph said that Darryl is a "beach bum" who has an "awesome" reputation as a surfer. They also reported that Darryl is set to get to know Charlie Buckton (Esther Anderson).
Peacocke heard about the role from his agent and he told Digital Spy that he was not sure he would suit the part as he is from the country. Peacocke call the audition process "a lot of fun" and said that he got to work with Esther Anderson, which was helpful.
The character of Brax was described to Peacocke as the leader of an "outlaw surfie gang" and the actor said that he thought of all the guys he has met playing sport who are feared. He said "They are generally pretty unassuming and laid back because they are confident that they can handle things when push comes to shove." When asked if anything had surprised him about his character, Peacocke said "Not really - I've learnt a lot from playing the character, though. He comes from a completely different set of circumstances from me. He exists in a world that I was always taught was wrong. But his motivation is universal - he wants to make something of himself and escape a 'normal' life." Channel Seven describe Darryl as having a "dodgy reputation and a chip on his shoulder." He is a surfing legend and has developed a surfing style that makes his fellow competitors look soft. Seven explained that as Darryl is the most fearless of the surfers, he commands a respect from other surfers and finds is useful. However, he is a "reluctant hero", shows a loyalty to his roots and wants to make something of himself.
Darryl is the man of the house as his father walked out on his mother, Cheryl (Suzi Dougherty) and his two brothers, Heath (Daniel Ewing) and Casey (Lincoln Younes,) when he was twelve. He tries to keep his younger brothers out of trouble and support his mother at the same time. Darryl has an on off relationship with Tegan, another surfer.
